198. "I don't numb the pain away with sugar anymore": Sarah
Description
Sarah grew up with a mother who was very intentional with feeding her family healthy food. She cooked everything from scratch.
As a child, Sarah didn't have any exposure to sugar whatsoever.
And because there was no option for sugar in her life, Sarah says that she was neutral around food.
Until her late thirties, when she decided to do a popular elimination diet. She had no weight to lose at the time, but she wanted to see what the hype was about.
So she went on a 30-day elimination diet where she cut out categories of foods, like legumes and dairy and grains and certain fruits, certain starchy vegetables... and of course, sugar. Later, she also cut alcohol.
But that 30 day elimination diet put Sarah in a calorie restricted state. And for the first time in her life, she felt totally out of control around food.
Listen to how cutting sugar and alcohol forced Sarah to learn to deal with her emotional pain and physical pain in healthier ways.
And how she developed healthier coping skills than sugar or food.
